WINNERS TRADERS DAY

On Monday, forty eight bowlers from the Shepparton Park, St James, Mansfield, Kew Heights, Eildon and Benalla Bowls clubs played two games of fourteen ends and two games of twelve ends of two bowl triples in warm weather.  The sponsors of the day were Ryan and McNulty Pty. Ltd., Benalla Taxis, Carters Timber and Hardware, Benalla Bus Lines and the Benalla Bowls Club Inc.  The winning team for the day with four wins and 30 shots up was Frank Watson(skip), Dave Hardie and John Wallace from the Shepparton Park bowls club..  In their first game they played V. Rio(skip), R.Jansen and D.O’Connell from Kew Heights.  Initially this was an even game with the score being 4/4 after three ends.  However, Frank’s team won the next five ends in succession to lead 15/4.  They then went on to increase their lead and win the game 22/6.  In their second game, Frank’s team played Gary Nicholls(skip), Ron Weston and Clive Brindley from Benalla.  Frank’s team started this game strongly and led 8/1 after five ends.  However, Gary’s team fought back and after ten ends Frank’s team only led by 1 shot, 11/10.  Frank’s team then managed to maintain this 1 shot lead and win the game 14/13.  In their third game, Frank’s team played John Dennis(skip), Bob Morton and Ken Simm from Benalla.  Frank’s team again started strongly and led 6/2 after two ends.  They then maintained this difference in the scores for the remainder of the game which they won 14/10.  In their fourth game, Frank’s team played Alan Campbell(skip), Eugene Hodson and Graeme Kettle from Benalla..  Once again Frank’s team led 6/2 after two ends but they then scored 5 shots on the sixth end and went on to win the game 17/8.  The  runners-up team for the day was Gary Nicholls’ team and the third paced team was Brent O’Rourke(skip), Peter Rickby and Paul Hossack.
