The winning team for the day, for the second week in succession, with two wins and 14 shots up in their second game was Greg Beaton(skip), Damien O’Connor and Peter Williams. In their first game they played Bert Barrand(skip), Ian McDonalt and Charlie Thompson from Moyhu. Bert’s team led 3/0 after two ends but Greg’s team then lifted to win seven ends in succession and go on to win the game 21/8. In their second game, Greg’s team played George Pryor(skip), Bob Sutherland and Russell Swankie. Initially this was a very even game with Greg’s team leading 5/4 after five ends. However, Greg’s team then won eight of the remaining eleven ends, most with multiple scores, to go on and win the game 22/8. The runner up team for the day, with one win and 21 shots up in their second game, was Rod Mildren(skip), Eugene Hodson and Wally Taylor.

Martin Welsh, Monday, 25 August 2008On Monday, thirty six men and women bowlers from Mansfield, Swanpool and Benalla played two games of twelve ends of two bowl triples in pleasant weather. The winning team for the day, with two wins and 12 shots up in their second game, was Merv Sellars(skip), Brian Higgins and Marion Empey. In their first game they played Gunter and Elke and Lance Ante from Mansfield. Initially, this was an even game with the scores being 4/3 in Merv’s favour after four ends. However, Merv’s team then lifted and won the following six ends in succession to go on and win the game 16/6. In their second game, Merv’s team played Gordon Mathews(skip), Cath Boch and John Read. Merv’s team scored 1 shot on the first end of this game but Gordon’s team scored 5 shots on the second end to go to a 5/1 lead. Merv’s team then fought back to make the score 5/5 after four ends and then went on to win six of the remaining eight ends to win the game 18/6. The runner up team for the day, with one win and 11 shots up in their second game, was Harry Brent(skip), Rae Sheppard and Maureen Box.

Martin Welsh, Sunday, 24 August 2008On Saturday, fifty four bowlers from Euroa, Mansfield, Swanpool, St James and Benalla played two games of twelve ends of two bowl triples in mild weather to celebrate the opening of the summer season and President’s day. The winning team for the day, with two wins and a total of 25 shots up, was Ken Sutcliffe(skip), David Burch and Doug McFadzean. In their first game they played Max Drummond(skip), George Kennedy and Doug Tarbuck. Max’s team led 3/1 after four ends in this game but Ken’s team fought back strongly and won five of the remaining eight ends to win the game 13/7. In their second game, Ken’s team played Bob Bunting(skip), John Dennis and Alan Spinks. After two ends the score was 1/1 but in the remainder of the game Ken’s team lifted, with David Burch playing particularly well, to win eight of the remaining ten ends and the game 22/3. The runner up team for the day was Jim Hodder(skip), Bob Chalmers and Owen Noonan with two wins and a total of 19 shots up.

Martin Welsh, Saturday, 23 August 2008On Friday, sixteen lady bowlers from Benalla played one game of ten ends of pairs and a second game of eight ends of pairs in cool weather. The winning team for the day with two wins and a total of 10 shots up was Rae Shephard and Val Harris. In their first game they played Beryl Mollison and Joan Webster. This was a very even game with the score being 3/3 after three ends. Beryl and Joan then gained the lead on the fourth end and maintained the lead until the eighth end when Rae and Val gained the lead by 1 shot. They then went on to increase their lead and win the game 9/6. In their second game, Rae and Val played Doreen Tilbury and Gwen Mildren. Rae and Val started strongly in this game and led 4/1 after three ends. They then went on to increase their lead and win the game 7/3. The runner up team for the day was Dorothy McFadzean and Joan Hooper with two wins and a total of 3 shots up.

The winning team for the day, with two wins and 6 shots up in their second game, was Bruno Meneguzzi(skip), Libby Byrne and Peter Brodie. In their first game they played Martin Welsh(skip), David Burch and Lyn Hickey. In this game, one shot was scored on eleven of the fourteen ends played. Initially, Martin’s team dominated the game and led 8/2 after nine ends. However, Bruno’s team fought back, adjusting to increasing speed of the green well and winning all five of the remaining ends to win the game 11/8. In their second game Bruno’s team played Ken Rainsbury(skip), Elaine Rogers and Ellen Sheahan from Mansfield. Bruno’s team started strongly in this game and led 10/2 after eight ends. Ken’s team then outscored Bruno’s team on the remaining ends but Bruno’s team won the game 11/5. In their first game they played Stan Wilson(skip), Chris Ward and Alan Rowler. Both teams won six ends in this game but Max’s team had multiple scores on four of the six ends they won to win the game 13/8. In their second game, Max’s team played Alby Hales(skip), Barry Rainey and Lynda Arthur. This was initially an even game with the scores being 5/5 after six ends. However, Max’s team lifted and won five of the remaining six ends to win the game 15/6. The runner up team for the day with two wins and 13 shots up was Brian Higgins(skip), Doug Tarbuck and Margaret Buchanan.

Margaret’s team then fought back strongly, scoring 5 shots on the sixth end and then going on to outscore Aileen’s team over the remaining ends; Aileen’s team were able to hold on and win the game 19/11. In their second game Aileen’s team played Helen Cadsden(skip), Irene Carson and Brenda Sunderland from Swanpool. Once again Aileen’s team started strongly and led 9/0 after five ends. At the same time, sixteen bowlers played one game of twelve ends of fours and one game off ten ends of fours in near perfect bowling weather. Bowlers came from Swanpool, Mansfield, St James, Moira, Heathmont and Korumburra. The winning team for the day, with two wins and 19 shots up and a percentage of 71.11, was Stan Wilson(skip), Rae Sheppard, Chris Ward and Steve Bament. In their first game they played Robyn Cooper(skip), Graeme Watt, Alex Russell and Linda Arthur. This was initially an even game with the scores being 4/4 after four ends. Robyn’s team then scored 5 shots on the fifth end to take the lead and maintain it up until the eighth end. On the eighth end, Stan’s team scored 4 shots to take the lead 11/9 only to lose it again on the ninth end when Robyn’s team scored 3 shots. However, Stan’s team then lifted and won all of the remaining ends to win the game 17/12. In their second game, Stan’s team played Jack Lemin(skip), Kevin Morrison, Jeff Sneddon and Joyce Wilson. Martin Welsh, Friday, 25 April 2008On Thursday, twenty teams from Nagambie, Myrtleford, Wangaratta, Swanpool, Moria, Euroa and Benalla played three games of twelve ends of two bowl triples to celebrate the Peter Grubb Memorial triples day. The weather was perfect for playing bowls and the carpet greens were running at 13.5 seconds at the beginning of the day and 15 seconds by the end of play. The winning team, with three wins and a total of 21 shots up, was John Groat(skip), Martin Welsh and George Harrison. In their first game they played Rod Mildren(skip), Eugene Hodson and Bob Bunting. John’s team started strongly in this game scoring 5 shots on the second end to go to a 5/1 lead. Rod’s team then fought back by winning the next three ends to make the score 5/5 after five ends. John’s team won the next three ends to go to a 10/5 lead but once again Rod’s team fought back by scoring on the next three ends to make the score 10/8 in John’s favour. John’s team then scored 3 shots on the last end to win the game 13/8. In their second game John’s team played Rex Nankervis(skip), Athol Graham and Peter Rigby. Rex’s team startedstrongly in this game and led 5/2 after five ends. However, John’s team managed to gain the lead 9/7 on the ninth end before Rex’s team scored 2 shots on the tenth end to tie the scores at 9/9. John’s team then won the remaining two ends to win the game 13/9. In their third game John’s team played Max Tilbury(skip), Ray O’Shannessy and Ron Thorne. John’s team started soundly in this game and led 6/0 after three ends and then went on to win the game 18/6.
The runner up team, with three wins and 19 shots up, was Karl Rudolph(skip), Russell Swanke and Bob Sutherland. The equal third placed teams were Tony Williams(skip), Duncan Lindsay and Ken Simm and Jack Lillis’s team from Myrtleford both with three wins and 14 shots up.

The winning team for the day, with three wins and 9 shots up, was Martin Welsh(skip), Muriel Horsburgh, Dennis Burke and John Galletly. In their first game they played Vic Wakley(skip), Eugene Hodson, John Dennis and Shirley Wakley. After three ends the score was 2-2 but then Martin’s team moved away to lead 8-2 after five ends. Although Vic’s team reduced the margin, Martin’s team won the game 9-5. In their second game they played Rod Mildren(skip), Max Tilbury, Gwen Mildren and Wally Taylor. After four ends the score was 4-4 and the score was again equal on 5-5 after six ends. Martin’s team scored 2 shots on the seventh end to lead 7-5 but Rod’s team then drew two shots on the last end. With his last bowl, Martin managed to trail the kitty to score 1 shot and win the game 8-5. In their third game Martin’s team played Duncan Lindsay(skip), Athol Graham, Joan Cussen and Debra Holt. Martin’s team started strongly in this game and led 9-2 after six ends. Duncan’s team then fought back to score 4 shots over the remaining ends to make the final score 9-6 in Martin’s favour. The runner up team for the day was Merv Sellars(skip), John Turner, L.Sellars and Barry Watt with 2.5 wins and 8 shots up.

Bob’s team started strongly and led 5-0 after three ends. Ray’s team then fought back to make the score 8-6 in Bob’s favour after nine ends. However, Bob’s team then lifted and scored on four of the remaining five ends to win the game 17-7. In their second game Bob’s team played Alby Hales(skip), Bob Sutherland and Ray O’Shannesy. They once again started strongly and led 12-0 after six ends. Alby’s team then fought back and won the next three ends to make the score 12-7 in Bob’s favour at the completion of the ninth end. BENALLA PREMIERS IN DIVISION B3
Martin Welsh, Right, Saturday, 15 March 2008On Saturday, the Benalla B3 pennant team won the premiership in the Ovens and Murray B3 pennant competition. They played St James in the grand final at Corowa in hot weather with the greens running at 16 seconds. The St James side had had only one loss for the season while the Benalla side made the final four and the finals after playing the last match of the home and away games. The Benalla team won on two rinks and the final overall score was 80 shots to Benalla and 68 shots to St James. The best performed Benalla team on the day was Brendan Rettke(skip), Stan Wilson, Nick McNamara and Chris O’Connor. They played K.Williams(skip), M. Ilsley, F.Hooper and M.Millson from St James. Brendan’s team started strongly and led 7-0 after three ends. They then went on to increase their lead and win the game 30-21. The other winning team was Bob Bunting(skip), Eric Brewer, Barry Rainey and Darren Salan. They played G.Parker(skip), E.Ralph, K.Old, and J. Lidgerwood. Bob’s team also started very strongly and led 10-0 after six ends. Although Bob’s team was never headed all day, the St James team fought back to tie the score at 18-18 on the twenty first end. However, Bob’s team then lifted and scored 9 shots to 1 over the four remaining ends to win the game 27-19. The other Benalla team was Doug McFadzean(skip), Max Tilbury, John Dennis and Jake O’Connor. They played C.McCallum(skip), B. Roberts, G.Trewin and C.Tolliday. Doug’s team were down 4-11 after eight ends but then scored 6 shots on the ninth end and 2 shots on the tenth end to take the lead 12-11. The St James team then scored on ten of the remaining fifteen ends to win the game 28-23. Bob Chalmers was the emergency player for the side. Although he did not play, he played a major role in supporting the team by keeping the skippers up to date with the overall score. He also provided water when any player was thirsty.

Lottie Taylor of the Benalla Bowls club, representing the Ovens & Murray, played Yvonne Williams from the Tallangatta Bowls club representing the North East. Lottie won her game against Yvonne and played Marlene Bartlett of Numurkah Golf, representing Central Murray, who defeated Lottie. The green was running at 18 secs. Congratulations Lottie for being the runner up
Pennant 1st semi final Benalla 1 travelled to Corowa to play Wodonga 1. It was a close game all day but Benalla came out the winners 76-60. They now go straight into the Grand final while Wodonga & Border Golf play on Tuesday to see who will be their opponents.
Social Day winners were M Cromie J Cussen L Wilson.
On Feb 29th there will be Nominated Pairs instead of the Classic, you can choose your own partner, there is no handicap and it is a medley .

JUNIOR THREE RIVERS CHALLENGE
Martin Welsh, Sunday, 27 January 2008On Friday, the Benalla Bowls Club had six representatives in the Ovens and Murray “Kelly Gang” junior development squad participating in the Three Rivers Inaugural Junior Challenge Event held at the Club Mulwala Bowls Club. This event consisted of each team having four games of ten ends of two bowl triples against teams from the Murray and Goulburn Valley Bowls Associations. The participants from Benalla were,
Emma Sangster, Sam Beaton, Nick McNamara, Jake O’Connor , Cameron Bradley, and Stewart McCauley. The Kelly Gang were successful on the day by winning ten of the sixteen games played by the side.

Martin Welsh, Sunday, 30 December 2007On Saturday twenty one men and women played two games of twelve ends in warm weather. The winning team for the day was Max Drummond(skip), Bob Chalmers and Robyn Cooper with two wins and a total of 18 shots up.. In their first game they played Max Tilbury(skip), Gavin McDonald and Wally Taylor. Max’s team dominated this game scoring on eight of the twelve ends played to win the game 15-6. In their second game they played Alby Hales(skip), Ray O’Shannesy and Jim Payne. Max’s team again dominated the game by scoring on eight of the twelve ends played to win the game 12-3.

Martin Welsh, Friday, 23 November 2007On Thursday, twenty four players played two games of fourteen ends of two bowl triples in cool weather conditions. The winning team for the day was George Prior(skip), Bob Sutherland and Jon Edwards. In their first game they played Albert Green(skip), Barry Watt and Owen Noonan. This was a very close game with the lead changing on several occasions. After four ends, Albert’s team led 4-0 but then George’s team fought back to take the lead on the eighth end 9-8 only to lose it again by conceding 4 shots on the ninth end to be down 9-12. However, George’s team then asserted their authority and won the following four ends to lead 17-12 but then conceded 4 shots on he last end to hold on and win the game 17-16. In their second game they played Max Tilbury(skip), Bob Bunting and John Tolliday. George’s team dominated this game starting strongly and going on to win the game 18-4 and the day with two wins and 15 shots up. The runners up team, with two wins and 14 shots up, was Ian Brond(skip), Doug Tarbuck and Wally Taylor.

Martin Welsh, Below, Wednesday, 14 November 2007On Wednesday, the Teddy Briggs Day two bowls triples tournament was held at the Benalla Bowls Club. The event consisted of four games each of fourteen ends. Thirty two teams from all over the state participated in the event. The winning team for the day with four wins and thirty four shots up was Geoff Briggs(skip), Graeme Jackson and John Cassidy from Bendigo. In their first game they played Rex Nankervis’s team from Benalla. Geoff’s team started strongly and lead 6-0 after three ends and then went on to win the game 22-7. In their second game, they played Clinton Hill(skip), Graeme Lessing and John Mitchell from Benalla. Once again Geoff’s team started strongly and went on to win the game 23-7. In their third game they played Alan Stafford, John Sloan and G. Dyer from Altona and Myrtleford. This was a very even game with Geoff’s team trailing by several shots up to and including the twelfth end when the scores were 10-12 in Alan’s favour. However, Geoff’s then applied the pressure and scored four shots on the next two ends to win the game 14-12. In their final game they played Kevin Doyle’s team from Dookie. This was a game where Geoff’s team dominated for the first half of the game and led 12-4 after six ends. Kevin’s team then fought back and won the next seven ends in succession to lead 15-12. However, Geoff’s team then scored 4 shots on the last end to win the game 16-15.
The runner up team was Kevin McAsey(skip), Alan Kauffman and Mick Brown from Lockington, with four wins and 26 shots up, while Merv Sellars(skip), Stan Gardner and Chris Randell from Benalla with four wins and 22 shots were in third position. Barry Harris(skip), Russell Swankie and Jack Greenwood from Benalla were in fourth position with four wins and 13 shots up and Alan Stafford(skip), John Sloan and G. Dyer from Altona and Myrtleford, with three wins and 30 shots up, were in fifth position.
Each of the winners, thanked the sponsors and the organiser for a most enjoyable day, and then indicated that they would be returning next year to play on the new carpet greens.

Benalla 1 travelled to Myrtleford where they had a very close match and were the winners by 6 shots 69-63 Benalla 2 were at home to Yarra Border 2 and went down by only 3 shots 62- 65. Benalla 3 were at home to Milawa and they had a good win by 38 shots 80 -42 Benalla 4 travelled to Corowa to play Corowa 4 it was not their dayl 62-91

The winning team for the day with two wins and 21 shots up was Geoff Green(skip), George Kennedy and Pete Symons. In their first game they played Alan Cromie(skip), Max Drummond, Doug Tarbuck and David Burch. After seven ends were completed, Alan’ team led 7-6. On the eight end, Geoff’s team took the lead 8-7 and then maintained their lead to win the game 14-9. In their second game, Geoff’s team played Mel MacDonald(skip), Joe Ogden and John Borthwick. After two ends the scores were 2-2, but then Geoff’s team dominated the game by winning eight of the remaining ten ends to win the game 21-5. The runner up team for the day was Graham Lessing(skip), Dennis Burke and Eugene Hodson with two wins and 19 shots up.

The winning team for the day, with two wins and seven shots up, was Brendan Rettke(skip), Keith Dobson, Joyce Wilson ands Damien Salan. In their first game they played Martin Welsh(skip), Nancy Westmore, Doug Tarbuck and Wally Taylor. Brendan’s team started strongly and led 10-0 after three ends. However, Martin’s tem then fought back and after eight ends the scores were 12-10 in the Rettke teams favour. They went on to win the game 14-10. In their second game they played Doug McFadzean(skip), Allan Cromie, Phyllis Tarbuck and Alan Spinks. In this game Doug’s team started strongly and led 8-1 after six ends. Brendan’s then fought back to score ten shots on the remaining for ends to win the game 11-8. The runners up team for the day with two wins and four shots up was Brian Higgins(skip), Rae Sheppard, John Dennis and Bob Chalmers.

Martin Welsh, Below, Thursday, 23 August 2007On Wednesday, forty two bowlers from Euroa, Wangaratta, Swanpool, Moria and Benalla played two games of sixteen ends of two bowl triples in perfect weather for playing bowls. In the second game, the winners of the first game played each other to determine the winner while the losers of the first game played each other to determine the runner up. The winning team for the day was Des Blyss(skip), Clive Brindley and J. Stevens. In their first game they played D. O’Connor’s team from Euroa. This was a game of “multiple scores” with multiple scores occurring on eleven of the sixteen ends played. After six ends were completed, when the scores were 7-5 in favour of Des’s team, the Blyss team dominated the game and went on to win 20-9. In their second game, they played Merv Sellars(skip), Alan Cromie and Peter Symons. After four ends the scores were 3-3 but Des’s them then won eight of the remaining twelve ends to win the game 20-10. The runner up team for the second week in succession, was Bob Sutherland(skip), Chris Randell and Ray Hill

It was a very enjoyable day, and Club Mulwala won with 258 points, to Benalla's 227 points. The winning team from our visitors were Skip I Holms, 3rd G Willox, J Crothers 2nd, and M Chandler lead. The best team from Benalla was L Brown's team, with J Aldridge 3rd, M Price 2nd, and D Matheson lead.

The winning team for the day was Merv Sellars(skip), Stan Gardner and Peter Symons. In their first game they played Graham Lessing(Skip), Peter Williams and Bob Bunting. After three ends, Merv’s team led 3-0 and then they maintained their lead as the game progressed to win 16-12. In their second game they played Des McNulty(skip), Max Tilbury and Max Drummond. Once again, Merv’s team led 3-0 after three ends and increased their lead as the game progressed to win 22-10 to finish the day with two wins and a total of 22 shots up. The runners up team for the day was Bob Sutherland(skip), Chris Randell and Ray Hill.

Martin Welsh, Saturday, 11 August 2007On Saturday, twenty bowlers from Benalla assembled to play two games of ten ends with rain threatening throughout the day. The winning team for the day was Ian Brond(skip), Brian Higgins, Ray Hill and Bob Chalmers. They were the only team to win both games. In their first game they played Martin Welsh(skip), Lyn Hickey, Chris Randell and John Dennis. After the first end, the Brond team led throughout the game, leading 9-7 at the completion of the sixth end, and then going on to win three of the remaining four ends to win the game 19-10. In their second game, they played Max Drummond(skip), Phillip Westmore and Ray O’Shannessy. At the completion of the fourth end the scores were equal on 4-4, but the Brond team then won five of the remaining six ends to win the game 14-6 and the day with two wins and seventeen shots up.

Martin Welsh, Below, Sunday, 5 August 2007JACK GREENWOOD
Jack first joined the BBC around 1971-72. He joined the General Committee in around 1978 and served until 2000 except for some short breaks at different times over the next twenty years.
Jack has held various positions:-
· Match Committee Chairman for two years and then serving another six years on the committee.
· Club Secretary 1991-92 for two years and then for another five months when Ted Guppy prematurely retired in 1997.
· Club President – 1998-99, 1999-2000 for two years.
· Board Director – Building and Property – 2002 to 2005 – three years.
Achievements:–
· As Secretary – with Jack Firth and Rex Nankervis – successfully taking the Club into the gaming machine industry, with other members working as staff for the first six months of gaming for no remuneration and being a voluntary member of the counting team for several years after opening.
· As President – Worked closely with Benalla Band and Council to arrange the removal of the old Band Hall.
· Steered through changes to our Constitution enabling the formation of the current governing structure – Board – Men’s – Ladies Sections.
· As Director – Served as Director of Building and Property. Worked closely with Board Members and Builders during the complete refurbishment of our present building.
Jack has lost count of the number of working bees he has attended around the greens and throughout the building. He also assisted with Bingo and still does once a month on a Wednesday and is a regular ticket seller at our Friday Night Members Raffles. Most of our Honour Boards have been designed and made by Jack.
SYDNEY CHANTER
Syd joined the BBC in the season 1954/55 and commenced playing pennant. He held joint membership with the Moira Bowls Club and returned to bowling at the BBC in 1966.
Syd served on:-
· Match Committee in the early days for many years
· The bar Committee for seven years.
· Selection Committee as a Pennant Selector for five years including two years as Chairman.
· General Committee as Secretary for one year, one year as Junior Vice President and two years as President.
· The Board of Management as Sports Director for two years.
· Monday night Bingo for approximately seven years.
· As bus driver for the ladies and men’s pennant for eight years.
He retired from active pennant play in 2006 and served one season as a non-playing Pennant Selector.
Syd is still currently helping out on Friday Night Members Draws.
BOB BIRD
Bob Bird came to Benalla in 1980 and the following year was elected to General and Match Committees. Soon after, he was elected to Match Committee Chairman which he held for five years. He then served another three terms over a period of ten years.
Bob has also held the following positions:-
· Junior Vice President for two years and Senior Vice President for 2 years, but didn't continue on as President due to pressure of work and health.
· Chairman of Benalla Umpiring Committee .
· Member of the 0 &M.C.B.A Coaching Committee and became Chairman in 2006.
· Bowls coach and Chairman of Benalla Coaching for several years and is still on that committee.
· Umpire in 1994 and held the position of Chairman of O&M.C.B.A Umpiring committee for 5 years. Still on that committee.
· Selection Committee for 4 years and chairman for 1 year.
· Member of Tournament and Match Committees
Bob played in all positions in all divisions of pennant and was fortunate to play in two winning teams with the `Greens and Blues".
As you can see Bob has been a great member of Benalla Bowls Club, working behind the scene where bowlers do not realize what time and effort is required to fulfill these duties. He surely has a track record to be rewarded with a "Life Membership"

Martin Welsh, Sunday, 29 July 2007Club Pairs. Thursday 26th the club pairs was held, the winning team was skippered by L Brown and lead L Watson. G Green team, with C Barnes as lead,were the runners up.
Congratulations to all the winners, well done.
Sunday 22nd Social 17 players turned up, and the winners were N Heffernan and V King. They were the only pairs to play, as we did no have enough players to all play triples
Tuesday 24th Social Bowls was another great day with L Brown’s team winning. Lorna
was skip, K Dobson 3rd, and M Bennett 2nd
Saturday 28th. We had 28 players playing bowls and the winners were Y Dows skipping, B Macklin 3rd, M Joyce 2nd. and L Watson leading.

Martin Welsh, Friday, 27 July 2007On Tuesday 24th July 2007, Morry Ryan played George Pryor in the final of the indoor singles club championship. After nine ends, the score was 6-6 and then after another seven ends the score was again equal on 12-12. Morry then won the next two ends to lead 16-12 at the completion of the eighteenth end but George fought back to score six shots over the next four ends to lead 18-16. At this point in the game, Morry asserted his authority to win eight of the remaining nine ends to win the club championship 26-19

Martin Welsh, Sunday, 15 July 2007On Saturday, eighteen bowlers assembled to play two games of two bowl triples in cool but otherwise perfect conditions for playing bowls. The winning team for the day was Doug McFadzean(skip), Ian Brond and Chris Randell. In their first game they played Vic Wakley(s), Barry Rainey and Ray Hill. Chris Randell, who is in the Australian side to compete in the World Bowls Championships for the disabled, led very well and Doug’s team dominated the game with multiple scores on five of the ten ends played. They led throughout and won the game 19-7. In their second game, Doug’s team played Brian Higgins(s), Dorothy McFadzean and John Dennis. This was initially a much more even game with John Dennis leading well. After eight ends were completed the score was 5-5. However, in the remaining four ends, Doug’s team scored eight shots to win the game 15-5 and the day, with two wins and twenty shots up.

Martin Welsh, Thursday, 12 July 2007 On Wednesday, thirty bowlers from Euroa, Moria and Benalla played two games of sixteen ends of two bowl triples in perfect weather conditions. The winning team for the day was John Sneeberger, Laurie Melgaard and Graham Kettle. In their first game they played Merv Sellars, Stan Gardiner and Pete Symons. This was an even match for six ends with John’s team leading 6-5. However, John’s team then asserted their authority and won seven of the remaining ten ends to win the game 16-11. In their second game, the Sneeberger team played Duncan Lindsay, Bob Sutherland and Ray Hill. This was a game of high scoring with multiple scores occurring on 50% of the ends played. After eleven ends, the scores were 9-9 and after thirteen ends the scores were 10-10. However, John’s team scored nine shots on the remaining three ends to win the game and the day 19-10. Following their loss to the Sneeberger team in the first game, Merv Sellars team went on to win the runners up prize.
